CarmenCoCarmen Co is an ensemble comprising Emily Andrews, flautist/mezzo; David Massey & Francisco Correa, guitars.
Exploiting the rich texture of 2 guitars & our skills in arranging, our flautist Emily also plays & dances at the same time, providing the basis for developing vibrant, visual yet cost-effective programmes which can easily tour & engage low-engaged communities. Formed in 2017, we have performed across the UK, honing our distinctive approach, combining standard flute & guitar music with our own arrangements of orchestral pieces, folk & world music. In particular, we have started to develop a show, harnessing the potential of the well-known music & powerful story of Bizet’s opera Carmen combining dance & a simple story. The trio grew out of The Andrews Massey Duo, (formed by Emily & David in 2009), who have won the Tunnell Trust Award 2012-2013; were Royal Overseas League Competition semi-finalists 3 times & have appeared at Wigmore Hall, St Martin in the Fields & Kings Place & in Germany, Italy & Sweden. They have made 3 CDs. One of their videos had 230,000+ YouTube views. Our show intertwines specially-arranged music from Bizet's Carmen and other Spanish and Spanish-inspired music including by Boccherini, da Falla, Garcia-Lorca, Granados, Ravel, Delibes and Albeniz. |
